Ambassador Nikki Haley praises reduced United Nations 2018-2019 budget

Haley said that the United States will not be told by any country where we can put our embassy. But for those who voted against it, abstained, or didn't attend, Mrs Haley has invited them to a reception to thank them for "their friendship" to the US.

A day before the United Nations resolution voting-precisely on December 20-Nikki Haley, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, tweeted: "At the United Nations we're always asked to do more & give more".

The General Assembly's overwhelming rebuke of the Trump administration came just a day after Haley warned in a Facebook post that "yes, the us will be taking names" during the vote.

Reacting to the UN resolution, the US Ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley, had said, "Unlike some UN member countries, the United States government is answerable to its people; as such, we have an obligation to acknowledge when our political and financial capital is being poorly spent".

Haley said "the United States will remember this day" when it was "singled out for attack".

The nonbinding resolution declaring USA action on Jerusalem "null and void" was approved 128-9 - a victory for the Palestinians, but not as big as they expected. Far from being a usurpation of the Security Council's role, the General Assembly's action is a declaration of respect for the Security Council's own prior resolutions, in the face of USA flouting of those resolutions.

But, Haley said, "we'll be honest with you".

The Philippine vote on the said issue caught veteran diplomatic observers by surprise considering that the country had already stated its support to a "two-State policy" concerning the Israeli-Palestinian issue.

The results of the poll, which were released a day after the UN General Assembly voted overwhelmingly to reject the United States decision, indicate that the issue is a partisan one; 79% of Republicans supported the move while 71% of Democrats did not.

But 35 countries - including the six European Union member states Poland, Romania, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Croatia and Latvia - abstained. We're going to need them on Iran.

Later Thursday an invitation was sent around to the countries that did not support the resolution on Jerusalem, to attend a reception with Haley in January.

The Trump administration made it clear the vote would have no effect on its plan to move the American Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

The country has long had ties with Israel, especially in security matters.

There are no signs yet as to what retribution those who supported the resolution might face.
