FCA shows off newly-designed Jeep Cherokee ahead of Detroit auto show

The rest of the front bumper and grille also look a bit softer and rounder, but there's still a hint of the wedge-y pointy look of the previous generation that helps keep the crossover immediately identifiable as a Cherokee. Some people liked the new look, some people hated the new look and some people didn't care so long as it proved to be a solid vehicle.

Jeep released a few photos of the 2019 Cherokee ahead of its Detroit auto show debut, and lo and behold, the weird stacked-headlight design is gone.

Jeep revived the Cherokee nameplate back in 2014 with an SUV entry that didn't look very Jeep-like.

The good news for Jeep was that the people who either liked or didn't care about that unique front end bought the Cherokee in droves, and that has continued over the past few years.

Until then, we'll bring you all of the latest Jeep news as it unfolds in Detroit next month. For 2019, Jeep will be adding even more fuel-efficient powertrain options to the lineup.

The Auburn Hills, Michigan-based automaker released four photos of the SUV that showed its new design, wider headlights and some other changes.

We'll have all the details next month when the 2019 Cherokee debuts on January 16 in Detroit. The fog lights now sit in the spot where the current design has its lower headlight component and the headlights are one solid unit. This turbocharged engine will be the new range topper and that's not a bad thing.

Official images of the 2019 Jeep Cherokee SUV have been released and as expected the new-gen model comes with a host of changes.
