Trump Putin call: Central Intelligence Agency helped stop Russian Federation terror attack

There was no immediate confirmation from USA authorities that they had shared intelligence with Russian officials but White House press secretary Sarah Sanders tweeted a confirmation that the two presidents spoke on Sunday.

Putin of Russia called President Donald J. Trump today to thank him for the advanced warning the United States intelligence agencies provided to Russia concerning a major terror plot in Saint Petersburg, Russia, " read the statement from the White House.

Russia's FSB security service said in a statement on Friday that it had detained seven members of a cell of Islamic State supporters and seized a significant amount of explosives, weapons and extremist literature.

"The Russian president thanked his US counterpart for information shared by the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) that helped trace, expose and detain a group of terrorists who had plotted explosions in St. Petersburg's Kazan Cathedral and in other crowded places in that city", the Kremlin said. Trump was also asked to forward Putin's appreciation to CIA Director Mike Pompeo and the intelligence officials who obtained the information.

Putin added that his country will also alert the U.S. if it ever got hold of information regarding a planned terror attack on USA soil.

Russian state-run media outlet TASS reported that Moscow initiated the call.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders affirmed in a tweet Sunday that the pioneers had talked and said the White House was getting ready to discharge a readout of the call.

The leaders' relationship is complicated by ongoing investigations into the Trump campaign's ties to Moscow.

"President Trump appreciated the call and told President Putin that he and the entire United States intelligence community were pleased to have helped save so many lives", the White House said in a statement late on Sunday.
