Apple releases iOS 11.2.1 update, fixes a bug in HomeKit

Apple's iOS 11.2.1 update comes with bug fixes, including for an issue where remote access for the Home app was disabled to shared users.

Apple's latest iOS 11.2.1 and tvOS 11.2.1 updates are now available for download. The new update also resolves some of the issues from the major update in iOS 11.2 which was released a couple of weeks ago.

9to5Mac reported on the vulnerability, which allowed unauthorized access to smart home accessories including locks and garage door openers, last week after seeing a demonstration in the shipping version of iOS 11.2. The new updates iOS 11.2.1 and tvOS 11.2.1 re-enables remote access for users. It doesn't seem that Apple chose to include with its latest update, a fix for the glitch that prevents an iPhone user with Apple Pay Cash to reinstall the feature after deleting it from his or her phone.

Additionally, Apple has pushed tvOS 11.2.1 update for the Apple TV to address the same HomeKit vulnerability. Apple is now following that up with the first ever betas of iOS 11.2.5, watchOS 4.2.2 and tvOS 11.2.5. Users should back up data before downloading the update. The update brings features like Apple Pay Cash, faster wireless charging support and several bug fixes.

Apple has rolled out iOS 11.2.1.

It's highly recommended that you install these updates on a spare device for testing purposes as it is uncertain at this point where this beta might fall short in terms of functionality.

Apple iPhone, iPad users can go to Settings app General Software Update and check for the update.
