Stricker, 48, said he has been volunteering to ring the bell to raise money through the Saginaw Sunrise Rotary Club, which he is the president of, for the past four years. "We are asking people to dig deep, our campaign only goes until Christmas Eve".

If they can't meet their goal, the budget gets tighter.

"(We need) people to come together and help us help hundreds of men, women and children of Hardin County this holiday season", he said.

Meery said past year they raised about $23,000 through the campaign but didn't reach their goal of $27,000. As of Monday, they have only raised $60,000. "There are shelters, the homeless, people that lose their rent, can't pay rent, and we help with the utilities", Lt. Jumaine Bernabe with the Salvation Army said.

"When it comes to bell ringing, we have more open time slots then we have filled time slots", he said.

This year they were unable to set up Red Kettle locations in Clark and Montgomery counties due to a lack of volunteers, but there are plans to branch out next year. There are red kettles at Wal-Mart and Hy-Vee entrances and counter kettles at the following businesses: South Nodaway Valley Bank, Hy-Vee Gas and Convenience, Pagliai's, Ace Hardware, Gray's Restaurant, Orscheln Farm and Home and O'Reilly Auto Parts.
