Man appears in court over alleged plot to kill British PM

Naa'imur Zakariyah Rahman, 20, has been charged with preparing acts of terrorism and was remanded in custody during a hearing at Westminster Magistrates' Court.

10 Downing Street is the location of the prime minister's office. "Rather it is spreading to new areas, including trying to encourage attacks in the United Kingdom and elsewhere via propaganda on social media", the spokesman also said.

The alleged conspiracy was foiled after a joint operation by Scotland Yard, West Midlands Police and MI5. However, the news made the headlines after the security officials released a report on the issue. Five people died in the attack.

Suicide bomber Salman Abedi, who killed 22 people, had been a "subject of interest" to British police in the months before the attack, but was not put under investigation. "Essentially police believe that the plan was to launch some sort of improvised explosive device at Downing Street and in the ensuing chaos attack and kill Theresa May, the prime minister", said Sky's Crime Correspondent Martin Brunt.

It comes as a new report found that security services could possibly have prevented a suicide attack at the Manchester Arena in May.

His report also noted that the Pakistani-origin ringleader, Khuram Butt, of the terrorist attack on London Bridge in June had been on the security services' radar for two years.

Parker spoke to members of Theresa May's cabinet about terrorist threats.

"Cabinet ministers heard that while IS suffered major defeats in Iraq and Syria, this did not mean the threat is over".

The IRA had previously targeted prime minister Margaret Thatcher at the Conservative conference in Brighton in 1984.
