Selena Gomez gives tearful speech thanking friend who saved her life

The "Wolves" crooner was asked about her decision to sign onto the project, but basically said nothing with her response.

"I've never felt this proud to be a woman in the industry than I do today, and that's because I actually feel comfortable with every single woman that has encouraged me", she continued, stressing how crucial it is that women's voices are finally being heard.

At the event last night (November 30), the 25-year-old delivered an emotional acceptance speech and dedicated her award to Francia Raisa, her best friend who donated a kidney this year to save her life.

In September, Gomez revealed in a vulnerable Instagram post that - as effect of her lupus (she was diagnosed in 2013) - she was forced to undergo emergency kidney transplant surgery earlier this year.

Earlier in the day, her Billboard cover was released.

Justin Bieber's girlfriend wept as she explained that the award belonged to Raisa who saved her life by giving her the biggest gift of all.

She said, "To be honest, I'm not sure how to answer - not because I'm trying to back away from it". She commented, "We've been friends for nearly ten years now, we've gone through highs and lows together..." Does she feel like it is a battle scar?

Gomez's thanked her team, talked about the platform she has been given, and thanked the female artists who first paved the way for her to become a star. "It was really hard in the beginning", she admitted. I am incredibly blessed.

Selena went on to say that she doesn't really concern herself anymore with how people think she should live her life. "When I found out I was a match for Selena, I didn't think twice about it". In acting and in film, you're around a much more stable community.
