Moderate natural disaster shakes the East Coast

The United States Geological Service initially reported that a 5.1 magnitude quake struck Dover, Delaware on Thursday at 4:48 p.m.

The U.S. Geological Survey initially reported that the quake registered a 5.1 magnitude, before revising it down to 4.4 and later 4.1.

It was followed up ten minutes later by a less powerful 5.0 aftershock in the same area, the survey said.

An even more powerful natural disaster struck DE before that, according to UD, but that was before scientists took measurements.

Paul Caruso, a geophysicist with the USGS's natural disaster information center in Colorado, said he didn't expect any significant damage from the small quake, which he described as unusual.

Twitter users, including History Professor Kevin Kruse, also feeling the quake in Princeton.

A magnitude 6.3 quake is considered strong and is capable of causing severe damage.

"We definitely felt it here", said Master Cpl. Workers at the statehouse in Dover streamed into the streets after the quake to see what happened. "It was actually pretty scary and pretty surprising".

Brian Casey, an attorney based in Lake Success, said he felt the temblor in his office building between Marcus Avenue and Union Turnpike shortly before 5 p.m. Carberry, who is from the West Coast, said she told co-workers, "I'm pretty sure this is an quake".

WUSA9 Meteorologist Howard Bernstein compared the DE quake to one DC felt in August 2011.
