'Lady Bird' Just Became Rotten Tomatoes' Best-Reviewed Film Ever

Director Greta Gerwig's solo directorial debut has a flawless 100 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes with 170 reviews, and counting.

The movie reviews aggregator said this week that Lady Bird, the coming-of-age film released November 3, has topped 1999's Toy Story 2 (Pixar) as the film with more positive reviews and zero negative reviews (so far) than any other movie on the website.

There are zero "Rotten" reviews against this film. The movie shines brightest when it hones in on the turbulent, unconditional love between Lady Bird and her mother.

“This is completely fantastic and so incredibly appreciated by the entire team that made Lady Bird, ” she tells Rotten Tomatoes. Set in Sacramento, California in 2002, amidst a rapidly shifting American economic landscape, Lady Bird is an affecting look at the relationships that shape us, the beliefs that define us, and the unmatched beauty of a place called home. Along with Ronan, the movie also stars Laurie Metcalf, Lucas Hedges, Odeya Rush, and Timothée Chalamet. Whether Lady Bird makes it at the Oscars or not, the movie has already solidified itself as one of the best ones this year.

It was a marvelous run for the charming Pixar animated classic, but the crowning of a new champion is an even more exciting triumph for filmmaker Greta Gerwig, a 34-year-old writer and actress who made Lady Bird as her directorial debut.

"Lady Bird is nothing short of tremendous, a wise film about how two people deal with ambivalence", wrote Kyle Turner in his New York Film Festival review of the film for Paste.

Victor winner! Both Saoirse Ronan and Timothee Chalamet picked up awards at IFP's 2017 Gotham Independent Film Awards on Monday (November 27) in New York City. Lady Bird beat Toy Story 2's 163 "Fresh" reviews on Monday and the new movie, which stars Irish actress Saoirse Ronan, now boasts 170 positive reviews from movie critics against absolutely zero negative reviews.
