Derrick Rose Rumors: Guard Leaves Cleveland Cavaliers, To Retire From NBA?

Derrick Rose has left the Cleveland Cavaliers and is reportedly re-evaluating his National Basketball Association future.

Rose's increasing frustration with injuries is causing him to consider his desire to continue playing in the league, sources said.

The repeated injuries are weighing on Rose with a team source telling ESPN, "He's exhausted of being hurt and it's taking a toll on him mentally".

Rose, now 29, still has a lucrative sneaker deal with Adidas - six years and almost $70 million remaining on the contract, according to ESPN's Nick DePaula.

"He's exhausted of being hurt and it's taking a toll on him mentally", one source told ESPN.

Rose has missed 11 of 18 games this season, including the previous seven. The team has said that his absence is "excused" and that he has been away from the team since Monday.

When Derrick Rose went AWOL from the Knicks last season for what he called a family issue, rumors swirled that he was contemplating retirement. So furiously, in fact, that Rose hasn't played in more than 66 games in a single season since 2011-12.

A source tells Wojnarowski that the myriad of injuries are taking a mental toll on Rose.

Rose was averaging 14.3 points per game for the Cavaliers. The team is starting to turn things around and now has a six-game winning streak that has improved them to 11-7 on the season. He was supposed to be a solid fill-in for All-NBA point guard Isaiah Thomas as he recovers from a lingering hip injury. The ankle had been bothering him for almost a month when Cavs coach Tyronn Lue announced last week that Rose would be sidelined for "at least" two more weeks.
