Hizbul militant, soldier killed in encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam

Encounters ensued between militants and security forces at two places in south Kashmir early Tuesday morning, official sources said. As the troops laid cordon, they came under heavy fire from the militants, triggering off an encounter.

"The militants fired upon a joint party of police, army and paramilitary troopers who were deployed at a crossing to check the movement of vehicles". A police spokesman confirmed the death of two militants and added that the operation was still under way.

The gunbattle had also resulted in injuries to a policeman and death of a terrorist.

Elsewhere, a gunfight is underway between militants and security forces in Lam area of neighbouring Pulwama district.

The slain militant was identified as Mudasir Badroo, a resident of Yaripora in Kulgam.

Reports from Laam forests of Tral town of South Kashmir's Pulwama district said that government forces busted a hideout and recovered some blankets from there.

Officials said the militants could be foreigners.

Internet services have been snapped in south Kashmir and some parts of north Kashmir due to security reasons. "The operation was called off after no contact was established with them", a police official said.

There have been three gun-battles between armed forces and the militants in Kashmir in the last 12 hours.
