Winx Holds Safe in Record Time for Cox Plate Victory

Off at 1-9 in the United States wagering pool, Winx became the all-time Australian leader in Group 1 wins and money earned while joining Kingston Town as the Group 1 Cox plate's only three-time victor.

Chris Waller's magnificent daughter of Street Cry took her place alongside three-time Cox Plate victor Kingston Town after she was pressed all the way to the line by the gallant Humidor.

While Waller admits there is pressure associated with a horse like no other, her jockey Hugh Bowman is ever cool even if he is churning inside.

Directly on the Emirates, Waller added: "Whether she has another run this prep, when she goes overseas - if she goes overseas - it'll all unfold and be pretty obvious I would say".

"I have had an unbelievable career and Winx delivered me my first major Group 1 in this exact race three years ago, and she has now delivered me with my only other two".

".She will be recognized as one of the greatest horses to grace the Australian turf, and to be part of her career, I can't explain how much that means". I don't know if there is a right way to train Winx or not, but one thing I'll tell you is she'll rise to any challenge you give her.

And she didn't disappoint, out-classing all opposition in the race.

Trainer Chris Waller had labelled the race as Winx's "Grand Final" and she delivered in front of a sold-out Moonee Valley crowd that hung on her every stride.

"When you're thinking about the horse and the competition she's going to be up against, whether it be two weeks, whether it be in the autumn or whether it be the other side of the world, she'll only take them on if she's at her very best".

Winx, above in blue colours, has to fight hard to beat Humidor, green colours, in the 2017 Ladbrokes Cox Plate at The Valley. We will just look at her and see how she has recovered.

"Fortunately we got the upper hand and well done to connections of all runners, they have run second to a very good horse".

He said Winx would only travel if she was at her peak.

Bowman is the country's leading Group One jockey, and Waller is Australia's leading Group One trainer.

"She's an animal that we love and horses come first in this sport".
