Class 10th Student jumps off from school building in Kerala, Dies

A 15-year-old student, who jumped from the building of her school on Friday, succumbed to her injuries on Monday at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, as per media reports.

The class X student at Kollam's Trinity Lyceum School reportedly died between 2.30 and 3 am in the morning. It is said that the girl was involved in a tiff with classmates of her younger sister, who studies in class 8. She has been identified as Gauri Neha of Ramankulangara in Kollam. The issue is learnt to have been settled after talks between the girl's family and the school management.

The girl had attempted suicide by jumping off from the third storey of the Trinity Lyceum school near Thankasseri on Friday and was hospitalised in critical condition after sustaining serious injuries to her head and spine. Later, she was transferred to a specialty hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. Both the teachers scolded her in front of other teachers. Police sources said that based on a complaint lodged by the victim's father Prasanna Kumar, a case has been registered against the teachers under Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 305 (abetment of suicide of child). Student organisations in Kollam held protests and clashed with police demanding strict action against the teachers of the school.
