Selena Finally Gets a Google Doodle and Everyone Is Muy Excited

Selena was murdered by the founder of a fan club in 1995, just as she had finished recording her first English album.

Today's Google home page is spotlighting the Mexican-American singer and performer Selena Quintanilla, marking the the release date anniversary for her self-titled album "Selena" with Capitol EMI Studios in 1989.

Perla Campos, Global Marketing Lead for Google Doodles, tells Billboard that the singer helped her embrace her identity and served as a role model. At the time, her new teammates were conceiving of a Quintanilla Doodle to go live that same year.

Google has taken seized this October 17 to recall the release of her first album Selena, 28 years ago, which featured songs like My Love, Sukiyaki, Contigo Quiero Estar, No te Vayas and Besitos. The Google Doodle is featured in 14 different countries, including the USA and Mexico. Selena's death was sparked after her family suspected Saldívar of stealing money.

Though the Tejano singer may be gone, her legacy will never be forgotten.

Google also worked with the Quintanilla family to launch a special web collection.

"There were always two women who taught me I could do anything and be anything I set my mind to: my mom and Selena".

She was considered a "beacon of hope" for bi-cultural people, as the "Queen of Tejando", blended her two cultures into one mix of musical genius that shall be revered for years and year to come. "They even put red on the microphone the way she used to have it", she added.

"Early on when she passed away, people would tell me that time heals your heart and I couldn't understand that", Selena's older sister, Suzette Quintanilla, told Entertainment Tonight's Deidre Behar in March.

The Google team also compiled an interactive online art exhibition which showcases some of Texas native icon's possessions, including stage outfits, fan mail, the Grammy she received in 1994 for best Mexican-American album and more. "I was raised knowing that one day, she'll be resurrected and we'll see her again".
