Mobile puts 5GB cap on high-speed data in Canada and Mexico

Mobile puts 5GB cap on high-speed data in Canada and Mexico

Unfortunately the company has announced it's bringing an end to one of its more attractive perks: the free unlimited LTE service for customers traveling in Canada and Mexico.

T-Mobile states that less than one percent of its customers that use Mobile Without Borders go over 5GB.

T-Mobile is one of those carriers that like "breaking away" from its competition by coming out with a pretty good sale or coming up with a major perk that other carriers don't dare to do.

Starting on November 12th, T-Mobile's Mobile Without Borders plan will be getting a 5GB data cap on LTE speeds when users visit the US's neighbors to the north and south. After T-Mobile introduced unlimited Netflix streaming earlier this week, this plan comes as a slap to travelers who spend their time watching youtube videos or business owners relying on unlimited LTE data plans.

After years of floundering, T-Mobile has become a real threat to Verizon and AT&T by offering options that the latter carriers didn't.

The Mobile Without Borders service first appeared as part of T-Mobile's Simple Choice plan in 2015, and it came as an extension to the company's worldwide roaming incentives. With the changes, users can now access 5GB of data before being subject to throttling - or, how T-Mobile puts it - "data prioritization".

That roaming data was specifically for Mexico and Canada. "In order to prevent usage beyond the intent of the product", according to T-Mobile. What T-Mobile is going to do is add a cap to the LTE mobile data. After the users have exceeded 80% of the 5GB limit, they will be sent an alert message from T-Mobile.

If you have any more queries on the change and how it will reflect on your mobile usage, you can check the dedicated T-Mobile FAQ page to get all the answers.
