Google making video calling easier

The feature was earlier spotted online and now Google has made the announcement official. There are also new additions in the existing categories, including that Rainy day wallpaper that we saw on the Pixel 2, but that's again a Pixel exclusive. On Apple's iOS, FaceTime is integrated into the Phone, Contacts app. Users can make a direct FaceTime audio or video call with other friends on iOS by just tapping the option in Phone or Contacts itself.

If you're pretty excited about Google's upcoming new smartphones, the Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL but you haven't made up your mind if you want to get one (or two), now is your chance to see them for yourself and play around with the devices in person. Though of course, the app is pre-installed in several Android phones. All you have to do is download the Pixel Launcher that we uploaded below and install it onto your device. "We're working with our carrier and device partners to bring this experience to more Android devices over time", wrote product manager Jan Jedrzejowicz.

If both the caller and the recipient are on a carrier that supports ViLTE video calling, the calls will be routed through the carrier's ViLTE service.

Lastly, to try the integration using ViLTE, you and whoever you're video calling have to be on Verizon, a Google spokesperson confirmed with VentureBeat. Of course, such high quality might not possible on regular Duo calls.

Your device has to run the Android 7.0 Nougat operating system or above (Android 8.0 Oreo) to access the feature.
