NY police probing 2004 Weinstein sexual assault case

Police detectives in New York City and London are taking a fresh look into sexual assault allegations against Hollywood film producer Harvey Weinstein now that some 30 women have accused him of inappropriate conduct.

To address any lingering concern about Harvey Weinstein's behaviour, Maerov said he successfully pushed a new code of conduct at the company that included a detailed description of sexual harassment.

Some 30 women - including actresses Angelina Jolie, Ashley Judd and Gwyneth Paltrow - told The New York Times and The New Yorker magazine for recent stories that Weinstein had sexually harassed or sexually assaulted them. She said upon her rejections, Weinstein screamed at her, called her derogatory names, made threats and laughingly told people "Oh, Kate lives to say no to me". In fact, it's one of the easiest things I don't do.

"I told him I was never going to trade sexual favors to advance my career and I was under the impression that this was a career meeting", she said.

"At first he started talking about career stuff, and how he wanted to fly me to NY and give me a role in Sarah Jessica Parker's new film", Barth recalled on CNN's New Day morning show. Beckinsale ended her post by saying Weinstein is "an emblem of a system that is sick and that we have work to do".

Beckinsale recalls that a few years later Weinstein asked her if he had tried anything with her at the first meeting.

Members of the Weinstein Company board have insisted they were unaware of payments he had made to women who complained, calling the allegations "an utter surprise".

Hachette Book Group, one of the country's top publishers, says that it has "terminated" its deal with Weinstein Books.

Weinstein, 65, has denied all charges, according to a statement from his spokeswoman Sallie Hofmeister.

In the audio of their conversation which was released by the magazine, Weinstein can be heard apologizing for grabbing her breast and then repeatedly pressuring her to come into his hotel room.

"Talk to every woman you work with like she has the New York Times on speed dial".

Beckinsale calls for a new paradigm in the industry and says "let's stop allowing our young women to be sexual cannon fodder".

Weinstein spoke in front of media Wednesday as he emerged from a Los Angeles home and got into a vehicle.

Samantha Bee has a message for all the "creeps" in Hollywood: "We know who you are".

Pierre Lescure, the festival president, and general delegate Thierry Fremaux, wrote in a joint statement: "These actions point to a pattern of behavior that merits only the clearest and most unequivocal condemnation".

In 2015, the NY police opened an investigation into a complaint by Italian model Ambra Battilana Gutierrez, who said Weinstein had sexually attacked her in a hotel room.

"Our thoughts go out to the victims, to those who have had the courage to testify and to all the others", Fremaux and Lescure said.
