Google Pixel phones on sale at Woot

Google is preparing to announce its Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL handsets on October 4. In terms of hardware, for the most part it seems to be fairly standard but a recent tweet by Android Police's Artem Russakovskii has revealed some potential additional details. He said that he got the information from a "new source" who claims to have had time to play around with the Verizon model of the Pixel 2. The tweet reads, "New feature that listens to music all the time so if there's a song playing in the bg it will put the artist and title on your lockscreen".

While it is bad news that the two phones have a single camera, unlike the Nokia 8, the Galaxy Note 8 or the LG G6 - phones that will compete in stores - the fact is that Google is clinging to the software improvements to bring us the portrait mode experience.

The Music Recognition feature is separate from the Google Assistant but we're guessing the latter will have something similar someday or at least integrate the feature.

With Google's unveiling event fast approaching, there's a good chance that many of you will probably score great deals on the current Pixel smartphones. This led many to wonder if the same would be true of the larger Pixel XL 2, and supposedly that is a feature it will share with its smaller sibling.

Some other features that have been confirmed before the official launch include the Portrait Mode in the Google Camera app, improved Pixel Launcher, and the new "Music Recognition" feature. Those concerned about the privacy will have the option to disable this feature under Settings. Essentially, this is just a smaller version of the Google Home, which is a multimedia speaker and home AI.

While the previous leaks have also pointed out about the tentative pricing of the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, these new insights give more details about these devices. With this featue, users will be able to squeeze the phone's frame to trigger Google Assistant. This feature was earlier leaked in July.
