Cassidy fires back at Kimmel in health bill feud: 'Jimmy doesn't understand'

Kimmel claimed, "This guy, Bill Cassidy, just lied to my face".

"Your child with the pre-existing condition will get the care he needs if - and only if - his father is Jimmy Kimmel", Kimmel said of Cassidy's bill.

It is the second night in a row Kimmel has devoted the monologue portion of his prime-time ABC talk show, Jimmy Kimmel Live, to a detailed and impassioned criticism of Graham-Cassidy, which healthcare reporter Sarah Kliff of Vox calls "the most radical" assault yet on the ACA, President Obama's biggest legislative accomplishment. Sen. And on Wednesday, the late-night host pulled no punches when he delivered a searing update to that screed, aimed squarely at the conservative detractors trying to nail him with what he referred to as the "all comedians are dummies card".

"Maybe I'm not understanding the part of your bill in which federal funding disappears completely after 2026?"

"Jimmy doesn't understand, not because he's a talk show host - because we've never spoken", Cassidy said. Cassidy later appeared on Kimmel's show to double down on his claim that he would fight to ensure that working class families were able to receive the benefits they needed.

In perhaps the most handsome segment of this truth-to-power video comes with the effortless smack down of Fox & Friends talking head Brian Kilmeade, who trashed Kimmel as well, calling him a "Hollywood elite" who was pushing "his politics on the rest of the country". Kimmel ethered Kilmeade and called him out for being a phony, wannabe member of the Hollywood elite. "I don't think [the Graham-Cassidy bill] is going to pass".

"I'm glad you're interested", Kilmeade said sanctimoniously on Thursday morning, of Kimmel.

As a reminder, Kimmel caused a national media firestorm in May with his emotional monologue about his newborn son's health condition that moved many to tears. Is it the part where you cut $243bn from federal healthcare assistance?

"Last night Jimmy Kimmel personally attacked me", Kilmeade told his viewers, forgetting to mention he'd started the name calling. Sure, Democrats in Congress are objecting to the GOP proposal via press releases and on Twitter, but Kimmel has been clearly more effective at attracting media coverage on this issue. This is partly what drives up the cost of health care and forces consumers to go to the insurance companies to pay for the care they need.

On Wednesday, Kilmeade called Kimmel a member of the "Hollywood elite" and said he's "pushing" his politics "onto the rest of the country". And you know, the reason I'm talking about this is because my son had an open-heart surgery and has to have two more, and because of that, I've learned that there are kids with no insurance in the same situation.

Cassidy's response said in part, "there is a mother and father whose child whose child will have insurance because of Graham Cassidy Heller Johnson". Kimmel said on Wednesday. "Or could it be, Senator Cassidy, that the problem is that I do understand and that you got caught with your G-O-Penis out?" Want us to verify something for you?
