Georgia utilities say power restored to nearly 95 percent of customers

Georgia utilities say power restored to nearly 95 percent of customers

"If you are one of that 75,000, we want you to know that we hear you and we are working as hard and as safely and as quickly as we can to get you back up and running", said Meredith Stone with Georgia Power corporate communications in a statement.

Two east coast law firms filed a lawsuit that seeks class-action status to represent FPL customers who paid storm charge fees that were supposed to cover hurricane preparation work.

According to News 6 WKMG, only 13 of Florida's 67 counties do not have outages, and Gould explained crews are working overtime to restore power: "We are racing to get the lights back on, we've been making some really good progress".

In Florida Power & Light's 35-county service area, which includes roughly 5 million customers, more than 86 percent had power Saturday.

Georgia Power and Georgia Electric Membership Corp. reported Saturday morning about 26,000 Georgia customers were still without power because of Tropical Storm Irma.

"We do appreciate the effort FPL made in being here in full force all week", Deputy Town Manager Jay Boodheshwar said.

Overall, the number of customers without power across Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia is going down. Additionally, most customers in Immokalee and Lehigh Acres - the most impacted areas by the hurricane - can expect restoration by September 22.

Georgia Power will not refuse to reconnect service to customers impacted by Hurricane Irma due to a past due bill and demand payment prior to reconnection.

The company is on target to restore power to all by Wednesday, McDermitt said, except in areas with flooding or extensive wind damage.

Electrical linemen from all over the state and the country have worked day and night for over a week since the hurricane struck. Up to 80 percent of the flood damage to residential properties is not covered by any flood insurance, CoreLogic said. This means that when FPL responded to her area, the rest of the homes around her had power, but not hers.

FPL insists that solar customers install a switch on their systems to cleanly cut them off during an emergency and they can not turn it back on. Other people in the county lost everything. Georgia Power focuses on delivering world-class service to its customers every day and the company is consistently recognized by J.D. Power and Associates as an industry leader in customer satisfaction. The lawyers also say FPL did not do almost enough to trim trees and keep lines reinforced in the days before Irma hit.

"Our customers are angry and frustrated that we could not provide them better information".
