Stormzy Recreated His Album Artwork For Stunning Mercury Prize Performance

The 28 year old star, full name Sampha Sisay, released Process back in February this year, after a lengthy five-year recording process from when he initially broke through as a guest vocalist on SBTRKT's album.

The South London-based singer, songwriter and producer who has collaborated with Drake and Kanye West said "I feel like I'm dreaming!" as he accepted the award.

And now his profile is going to get even higher, as he has just won the 2017 Mercury Prize, a prestigious award given each year to the best British album of the year. "Thank you to the judges for thinking that my album was good enough for this".

Each year the victor is chosen by a 12-strong judging panel, which this year included musicians Jamie Cullum and Marcus Mumford.

After collecting his prize, Sampha treated the audience to another rendition of (No One Knows Me) Like The Piano. With its unique creativity, rich musicality, depth and vulnerability, it resonates emotionally and speaks to the heart.

Stormzy performed First Things First and Blinded By Your Grace, Skepta - who won the award in 2016 - performed Man. Ed Sheeran's hit album ÷ (Divide) was on the shortlist for the honour, as was alt-j's Relaxer, Blossoms by Blossoms, Kate Tempest's Let Them Eat Chaos, and Gang Signs & Prayer by rapper Stormzy.

The Big Moon have discussed their thoughts surrounding this evening's Mercury Prize ceremony as well as early plans for their second album.
