'India pushing Myanmar to take back Rohingya refugees'

She made her debut before the United Nations assembly last September, winning warm applause for a speech delivered months after she became Myanmar's first civilian leader in decades.

An estimated 380,000 Rohingya Muslim refugees have fled Myanmar and reached Bangladesh after a crackdown by Myanmarese security forces in response to an attack on a military outpost by Rohingya militants on August 25.

MUSLIM nations have demanded that the United Nations take urgent action to stop the "genocide" of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar, as nearly 400,000 have fled into neighbouring Bangladesh from a crackdown by the military.

Bangladeshi security forces have instructions to not let them in, said Monzurul Hassan Khan, a border guard officer.

The Security Council was due to discuss the situation on Wednesday in an urgent closed-door meeting, following an official letter from the Secretary-General expressing his concern.

And so we appreciate the hard and complex situation Aung San Suu Kyi finds herself in.

Most of the influx is concentrated around the Bangladesh border town of Cox's Bazar where more than 300,000 Rohingya refugees were packed into ill-equipped camps before the violence erupted last month in Rakhine. We are trying to take care of the security issue in many other places.

The secretary-general called on Burma's authorities "to suspend military action, end the violence, uphold the rule of law, and recognise the right of return of all those who had to leave the country".

"The global community must act to prevent the genocide of the Rohingya", the OIC said in a statement.

Hasina said her government allocated land for makeshift shelters of the Rohingyas "but it will certainly create a big problem for Bangladesh if they stay for long".

Critics have called for the Nobel laureate to be stripped of her peace prize amid reports of "ethnic cleansing" against Rohingya Muslimse.

"One is the current situation in Rakhine state".

Guterres was more emphatic - he didn't say the attacks merely looked like ethnic cleansing.

Hundreds of thousands of Rohingyas have fled to neighboring Bangladesh which, although a Muslim nation like the Rohingyas, is a very poor country and can not provide for the estimated 400,000 refugees who have fled from Myanmar.

She will, however, address the nation on TV on 19 September, the day the General Assembly meets.

"In our parliament, we have taken a resolution that Myanmar should take all their citizens back to their country and create a congenial atmosphere so that they can go back", Hasina said, according to Al-Jazeera.
