West Ham register first win of the season

West Ham United moved off the bottom of the table and up to 18th as they beat Huddersfield Town 2-0 at the London Stadium.

It was a first loss for Huddersfield - and the first goals the team has conceded - after opening with two wins and a draw following its promotion from the League Championship.

The Black Stars deputy captain was however introduced in the 64th minute and his first major contribution was to clip a ball to Pedro Obiang who took advantage of some terrible defending by Huddersfield to slot home and open the scoring all be it via a wicked deflection.

The lead was doubled six minutes later when Ayew poked home from six-yards out after Huddersfield failed to clear a corner.

Javier Hernandez hit the bar in the first half, in one of West Ham's few clear-cut chances.

STRIKER Andy Carroll insists the West Ham squad are right behind manager Slaven Bilic. Bilic, who's 49th birthday coincided with his side's victory, looked visibly relieved at the end of the game. "We needed three points and a clean sheet - that's what we got".

The 27-year-old Senegal global is available for Monday's Premier league visit of Huddersfield Town as Bilic hopes to avoid a fourth straight defeat.

"It worked well a year ago when we changed to this system".
