HP, Lenovo, Dell VR Headsets Coming To Windows 10 October 10th

The Windows 10 Fall Creators Update is going to be the fourth major addition to the OS, and it follows the Creators Update, which came earlier this year.

With the Fall Creators Update, the company also introduced new features like Windows Inking, revamped Photos app, One Drive files on-demand, and more.

The headsets will launch with the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update on the 17th October.

On the security side, the Fall Creators Update, Windows Defender will be smarter. Microsoft, in its infinite wisdom, made a decision to bury the feature when Windows 10 was introduced, much to the dismay of many users. Manufacturers are bringing out AR headsets that don't require the setting up of special cameras and sensors around a room, and manufacturers like Dell, Acer, HP and Lenovo will sell the hardware.

As far as gaming is concerned, Windows Creators Fall updates the Game Mode, which allows games to use the full processing power of a user's device.

Microsoft's push comes as the US tech giants - Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Apple and Facebook, along with China's Baidu - increasingly battle to make augmented reality, together with artificial intelligence and cloud-based services, into the next computer platform. You're looking at $350 for just the headset, or $450 for a bundle with the motion controllers. Headsets will have a starting as low as $299.

"By combining our physical and digital worlds, we believe mixed reality is the next step in the evolution of human computing", Myerson said in the blog post.

You'll likely notice the new My People feature when you install the update, as it allows you to select your three best friends and add them as icons in the taskbar for quick and easy contact - though the Insider Preview version limits you to using Skype or Mail alone.

According to Microsoft website, the update will also have "Timeline" feature that will let users "jump back in time to find what they were working on, whether it was two hours or two months ago".

"We are talking about a mixed reality system that fully immerses you in the experience not limited to a mobile device screen size", Meyerson wrote.
