Qatar to send its Ambassador to Iran

Qatar to send its Ambassador to Iran

The main border crossing between Iraq and Saudi Arabia is set to open again later this year.

Meanwhile, Zarif said Iran and Saudi Arabia would likely exchange diplomatic visits after the Hajj rituals.

Zarif said that they already have their respective representatives of the two States that profess the commandments of Islam by different variants, Sunni and Shiite.

The relations started deteriorating as a number of Iranians attacked the Saudi diplomatic missions in Tehran and Mashhad in protest to the execution of the pro-democracy cleric Nimr al-Nimr in January 2016.

Speaking in a live national radio channel, Mohammad Javad Zarif, Iran's Minister of Foreign Affairs, said diplomacy basically sought to remove barriers and create grounds as in the case of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) which alleviated obstacles though in a gradual manner.

The Iranian FM went on to assert that Tehran was "always ready" to engage in dialogue with Saudi Arabia with a view to resolving the region's crises.

A short Foreign Ministry statement issued early Thursday changed that, saying Qatar's ambassador soon would return to Iran.

There was no immediate reaction from the Arab nations boycotting Qatar on its Iran decision.

The four countries cut diplomatic ties and transportation links with Qatar over the Persian Gulf state's alleged funding of Islamic extremists - a charge Doha denies - and its ties to Tehran.

In Washington, State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert told reporters on Thursday that the US remains "very deeply concerned with the status of the dispute" between Qatar and the Arab quartet. "It really has", Nauert added.

Qatar has denied the charge and said this week it was anxious pilgrims from the emirate would be treated badly.

Eighty days have passed since Saudi Arabia and several other Arab states have severed ties with Qatar; the Qatari-Iranian entente was one of the driving forces behind the embargo.

Riyadh announced that it would allow Qataris to make the hajj pilgrimage to Mecca, which all able-bodied Muslims are supposed to do at least once in their life.

Qatar has not accepted any of these demands yet. Qatar refused to bow to the demands within a 10-day deadline, and the anti-Qatar bloc has begun to shift its focus toward six principles on combating extremism and terrorism. The royal, Abdullah al-Thani, has no role in the Qatari government and is from a branch of the royal family that was pushed out of power during a 1972 coup.

But Ulrichsen cautioned that so far, the Saudi moves appeared to be more needling than anything else.
