Buhari gives marching order to Security Chiefs on preserving Nigeria's unity

Olonisakin disclosed this to State House correspondents shortly after President Buhari met behind closed doors with members of the National Security Council in the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Tuesday.

Olonisakin said Buhari had directed security agencies to ensure that the unity of the country is preserved.

The president, who spoke through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, when he received the youth group, said he would do everything possible to keep the nation together.

"He also directed that we must ensure that the life and property of the citizens are protected and we must make sure that we secure the whole nation and also that troops that are outside carry out their jobs effectively, " Olonisakin stated.

He tweeted, "President Muhammadu Buhari is now presiding over security council meeting with all service chiefs, IGP, NSA and others in attendance".

He added that the President has been updated on the security situation in the country.

"Of course, we have just updated him because he is aware of what's been happening".

He said after the briefing, the President gave orders on some areas they should look at in order to enhance their operations.

On the issue of the Independent Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), Olonishakin said, "The issues of security, every security threat, all security threats were treated one after the other ranging from terrorism to kidnapping, herdsmen/farmers clash, to IPOB issue, were all treated. They were all treated; suggestions were made as to what to do as regards the issues".

Following President Muhammadu Buhari's safe return from his 103-day medical leave in Britain, some lawyers at the ongoing 2017 Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Lagos have called on the President to fulfill his campaign promises to the people.

He said, "I am charging the Security Agencies not to let the successes achieved in the last 18 months be a sign to relax". Boko Haram and IPOB are not the same.

The President is expected to receive more visitors including some service chiefs and ministers who will brief him on developments in their respective Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the coming days.
