Ford launches scrappage scheme offering at least £2000 for any brand

Its auto and van scrappage scheme will tempt customers with at least £2,000 and up to £7,000 to swap their old vehicle for a new Ford.

The auto manufacturer claim they are launching the scheme to help combat the amount of engine emissions given off by older cars.

The programme will run to the end of the year and it is effective for registrations from 1 September to 31 December 2017.

On average, consumers will be provided with around £2,000 off a range of new ford models which range from £12,000 to over £20,000.

It is expected that the scheme would help boost the vehicle sales as demand for new cars is beginning to show signs of weakness, according to BBC.

Ford said scrappage schemes could take hundreds of thousands of the dirtiest vehicles off the roads, to replace them with models using the latest Euro VI standard engines emitting 80 per cent to 90 per cent less NOx (the generic term for polluting notrogen oxides) and particulates.

Ford said that the scrappage incentive together with other standard offers, could see customers receive up to £4,000 off a vehicle or £7,000 off the cost of a van.

While the incentives from BMW and Mercedes require the owner to have kept their old vehicle for a minimum of 12 and 6 months respectively, the Ford deal says you only have had to be the registered keeper for 90 days.

Automotive giant Ford has become the latest auto company to offer cash incentives to trade in your old motor.

For Ford, the move is said to be part of its drive to get the most polluting vehicles off the road.

Andy Barratt, chairman and managing director of Ford of Britain "Ford shares society's concerns over air quality".

Ford's sales volumes were almost 24% lower last month and 4% down for the January-July period, according to the recent figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

Do other manufacturers have similar schemes?

Vauxhall and BMW launched trade-in programs earlier this year.

The scrappage scheme will also help sales of the new models, as demand is facing a continued drop.
