Manchester City bid rejected

Manchester City bid rejected

West Brom have told Manchester City that they will have to pay at least £30million to sign club captain Jonny Evans this summer, Paul Joyce of The Times reports.

City are set to make a renewed bid for Evans after having one in the region of £18 million (S$31.59 million) rejected by the Midlands club.

"When it's Man City or one of the top four or five clubs, it's very, very hard then because it affects the player because they have the chance to better themselves", BBC Sport quotes Pulis as saying.

City boss Pep Guardiola has already spent more than £200million on new players this summer, including three full-backs, but is still thought to be keen to add a centre-back.

"We don't want to stop him from doing something he wants to do".

"It would need to be a very good offer".

"He's been in this position before here and he understands the situation, until all parties agree then he won't go anywhere".

There would undoubtedly be issues over the respective player valuations over the pair, although West Brom are adamant Evans will not be exiting the Hawthorns for anything less than £30m at this late stage of the window. "He has been made club captain and he wants to get on with his football". It's still the same. "Tony Pulis was clear so there's nothing to talk about".

"We try to [get] the best squad as possible for the long season". We don't want to have a player that stays at the football club and is disappointed.

This enormous asking price, much higher than the £18million City offered this week for the 29-year-old former Manchester United defender, is sure to test City's determination to sign Evans.
