Hours-Old Newborn Found Covered in Bugs in Bushes

A baby girl was found dumped in a bush at 5am on Thursday morning in Houston, Texas Neighbour Albert Peterson first thought the sound of the baby crying was a cat Deandre Skillern came forward to identify himself as the father.

In an article by KPRC, according to Harris County deputies, a man who was on his way to work found the baby about 5 a.m. Thursday in a flower bed in an apartment complex in North Harris County.

He found her lying in the soil of a flower bed, covered in ants and other debris.

Peterson lifted the baby off the ground, cleaned and swaddled her and called police.

The unnamed mother is now in the custody of sheriffs and the local district attorney is now considering charges against her. She could be facing charges of abandoning a child.

"She had the mucus and the blood and umbilical cord and everything", he said. Baldwin could be heard saying it was insane and that someone had left their newborn baby out there, while telling Peterson to call 911.

"When I seen her, I seen ants and stuff all over".

"The judge will decide where the child will be placed when she's released from the hospital", Child Protective Services (CPS) said in a statement. Investigators say the girl was less than an hour old.

Harris County Deputy Thomas Gilliland said if it wasn't for the neighbor, Peterson, they would be looking at a homicide right now, adding it was a miracle the newborn baby was found in time.

The detectives went up to the door and knocked, but the people inside refused to open the door. Investigators tracked down a woman who is believed to be the mother of the baby girl.

Both the mother and the child were taken to area hospitals, where they were treated.

A hearing will be held Friday to determine who will get custody of the baby.

"Bro, that's insane. Somebody left their baby out here".

Texas law does allow a person to legally give up a child.
