Video Shows Car Plunge 7 Stories Off Parking Garage, Narrowly Miss SUV

The noise turned out to be a BMW falling seven stories from a parking garage.

Police in Austin, Texas, have released surveillance video showing a BMW plunging seven storeys from a downtown parking garage and striking another vehicle as it lands in an alley. Officers say she hit the wrong pedal on the 7th floor of the garage and broke through cable wiring lining the parking spots.

In a scene reminiscent of a Hollywood blockbuster, a woman's auto dramatically fell seven stories out of a Texas parking lot and smashed into the pavement, with the driver trapped inside.

The woman in the auto which plummeted over the edge suffered minor injuries in the spectacular smash, and has since recovered.

The vehicle then rests on its roof - as nearby witnesses, mostly construction workers, rush to the scene.

Both incidents raised questions about the reliability of the cables as a a safety retention measure, and in the city's ability to regulate safety in public garages - common fixtures in Austin's booming growth.

William Burch was driving his SUV out of a parking lot in Austin, Texas about a month ago when a BMW suddenly fell from the seventh floor onto his vehicle. There's the person who dialed Bowmer's husband while she lie covered in blood, giving her a chance to say what she thought might be a final goodbye. In previous months, two drivers found themselves hanging on the side of the garage. However, the property owner will need to file an extension because they are redesigning the entire cable system. In the meantime, plastic barriers filled with water serve as buffers on the level.
