Trump phones up Guam governor, says 1000pc safe

North Korea recently threatened the Pacific island with a missile attack. President Trump told Governor Calvo the United States is behind Guam "1,000 percent". "We are with you 1,000 percent" via phone on Friday.

"It just looks like a lovely place", Mr. Trump said.

"You've become extremely famous".

Calvo said he "never felt more safe or so confident" with Trump "at the helm". "I am so thankful and I'm glad you're holding the helm".

The president then takes a jab at his predecessors, telling Calvo, "They should've had me eight years ago or at least somebody with my thought process because that was the time". During the conversation Trump also noted how much everyone around the world is talking about and focused on Guam after the missile attack threats by North Korea. "It just looks like a attractive place", he said.

Calvo agrees, saying, "It's paradise. We've got 95 percent occupancy, and after all this stuff calms down, we're going to have 110 percent occupancy".

The North's official KCNA news service, for its part, accused Trump in an editorial of "driving the situation on the Korean peninsula to the brink of a nuclear war", calling the USA "the heinous nuclear war fanatic".

"If an attack warning is issued, take cover as quickly as you can, under concrete structure or below ground if possible", the sheet adds.

"I wish there would be less partisanship up there", Calvo told Trump.

Defense Secretary James Mattis warns North Korea will "lose any conflict it initiates".

"And your tourism, I can say this, your tourism is going to go up like tenfold with the expenditure of no money, so I congratulate you", Trump said in prescient tone.

He continued, "We're going to do a great job for you".

"The circumstances are unfortunate, but this is a good opportunity for us to educate the world about Guam and our culture, about where we are and who we are", Josh Tyquiengco, the bureau's marketing director, told the Agence France-Presse.

The statement followed a tweet by President Trump praising what he described as the growing USA nuclear arsenal, adding, "Hopefully we will never have to use this power, but there will never be a time that we are not the most powerful nation in the world!"
