Coutinho hands transfer request to Liverpool

While it's totally understandable why Liverpool aren't keen to let their man leave, preventing a messy battle between both parties is best bet.

Jack Hallows brings you his replacement picks if Liverpool do opt to take the option of selling Brazilian playmaker Philippe Coutinho this summer.

The Brazil worldwide has been heavily linked with a big-money move to Barcelona and he handed in a transfer request on Friday just hours after Liverpool's owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) released a statement saying the 25-year-old is not for sale.

It is an area Liverpool must fortify, while also adding to midfield and sticking to their "definitive stance" that Coutinho will remain at Anfield when the window closes.

Coutinho had been subject of a long standing transfer seesaw with repeated interest from Spanish giants Barcelona, who had for a few times indicated that the Brazilian was their key target this summer.

The Brazil worldwide directly communicated this desire to the Merseysiders via email on Friday following a strong statement from Fenway Sports Group (FSG) that his exit would not be sanctioned this summer .

The Brazil worldwide handed in a transfer request this week after the Merseyside club rejected a Barca bid worth £90m plus add-ons.

Coutinho is Barcelona's top target to replace Neymar following the striker's world record move to Paris Saint-Germain.

"I still think he will be at the club and I would keep him", he said on Sky Sports. It's getting to the stage where if he doesn't want to be here, no player is bigger than Liverpool. I have no influence on the players who aren't available. It should be exciting to see Liverpool's new frontline featuring Mohamed Salah, their marquee summer signing in action.

LIVERPOOL'S Premier League campaign got off to the worst possible start.

They had two previous bids rejected by the Premier League side but could yet come back with an offer in excess of £100 million.

The Reds will have little time to find a replacement should the 25-year-old be sold - but with the fee expect to be over £100m, they won't be short on cash to replace him.
