Bills trade Sammy Watkins and Ronald Darby in massive shakeup

Bills trade Sammy Watkins and Ronald Darby in massive shakeup

Matthews is dealt to Buffalo just moments after news surfaced that the Bills traded top wideout Sammy Watkins to the Rams.

The Buffalo Bills executed not only one, but two notable trades on Friday morning. After sitting out much of the spring, Watkins has taken a pretty full work load during training camp and figured to be the team's No. 1 receiver.

Darby is listed at 5-foot-11, 193 pounds. Darby has started all 29 games of his National Football League career. Last season, he caught 67 passes for 872 yards and eight touchdowns.

That will give them at a minimum six selections in the top 100 of the draft, plus if they get any compensatory selection for the loss of Stephon Gillmore, and potentially four of those picks could be top 40 selections.

Taking a look at the targets Matthews has seen while outside the slot over his three years in the league hasn't been ideal. And the Bills are stocked for the 2018 draft.

While fans are still shocked that Watkins is no longer a Bill, they managed to find a pretty solid replacement in Matthews. The Bills can release Taylor before paying him a $6 million roster bonus next March and save most of his $18 million cap number in 2018, the final year of his contract. The additional presence of third-year man Nelson Agholor seems to have made Mathews expendable, despite his catching 225 passes for 2,673 yards and 19 scores in his three seasons in Philadelphia. The VP added that he would not have done the deal if the player they were getting back had only one year left on his contract. "It goes to the player that we got, the position that we're acquiring and how hard it is to find those guys". Don't discount Mack Hollins earning some time there, as well. (Brooks, coming off a ruptured quad tendon, injured his hamstring Thursday in the preseason opener against the Green Bay Packers). Darby will step in and compete for a first team role with Jalen Mills and Patrick Robinson.

Before we get into Darby and what he brings to the Eagles, let's talk about what the Eagles are losing in Matthews.
