Federal Climate Report Contradicts Trump Administration Stance

The release of the research also coincided with the publication of leaked emails from Trump administration officials warning staffers to avoid using the term "climate change" in their work, instead using the phrase "weather extremes".

"Evidence for a changing climate abounds, from the top of the atmosphere to the depths of the oceans", say the authors in the draft report, with thousands of studies contributing to an irrefutable body of evidence. The report found that temperatures could rise by an additional 0.5 degrees Fahrenheit within the next century if current trajectories of carbon emissions continued, the New York Times said. But it has not yet received permission for release from the Trump administration, members of which have claimed that climate change can not definitively be linked to greenhouse gas emissions from human activity, the New York Times reported. The report, final draft dated June 28, also goes against the Trump administration's assertion that human contribution to climate change is unknown, and that the ability in predicting its effects is sparse.

The report was completed this year and is a special science section of the National Climate Assessment, which is congressionally mandated every four years. A copy of this year's report was first obtained by The New York Times.

The White House and the Environmental Protection Agency did not immediately return calls or respond to emails requesting comment Monday night.

Because of those and other conflicting studies, it concludes that there was suggestive evidence of climate change playing a role in Texas but competing schools of thought.

The intensity and frequency of rain and snow events have been increasing in most parts of the U.S. This map shows change in one measurement for extreme precipitation: the maximum daily precipitation in consecutive five-year periods.

The Trump administration is getting more Orwellian by the day, but as fast as it tries to bury the truth about climate change, scientists are fighting back and showing that they will not be silenced by the climate deniers in the White House.

Hayhoe pointed out that the report makes "ultra-cautious" scientific conclusions but does not, however, make any related policy recommendations.

Over on NBC's Today, Matt Lauer peppered Nikki Haley about the global warming report, demanding, "Given the fact we just pulled out of the Paris Climate Accord, will the administration embrace the results of this study?"

Trump and his administration announced last week that the USA has alerted the United Nations to its plans to pull out of the 2015 Paris Climate Accord. Moreover, the Guardian newspaper, which obtained White House emails, reported Monday that USA officials have been instructed to completely avoid using the term "climate change".

Annual average temperatures have already risen 1.6 degrees Fahrenheit since 1865, and are forecast to continue growing.
