New report sheds light on civilian deaths in Iraq & Syria

At least 744 civilians were killed in strikes in Syria and Iraq in June by the USA -led coalition that claims to be fighting the Islamic State group, according to Airwars.

Applicants must above all be willing to travel to Europe to kill - and possibly die - in the name of Isis, the fighter said in an interview in front of his captors.

Both developments are further signs of the diminishing fortunes of the militant group, which captured Raqqa, along with wide swathes of Syrian and Iraqi territory, from government forces in 2014 and declared an Islamic "caliphate" over land it controlled.

Trump publicized that assessment on Twitter, sharing The Washington Post's story, headlined, "Under Trump, gains against ISIS have 'dramatically accelerated'".

Steps President Trump has taken, including delegating decision-making authority down from the White House to military officials on the battlefield, have fueled the US -led coalition's gains against ISIS jihadists, according to McGurk.

"We as Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have explained in an official statement that any citizen in Raqqa who has not been involved in shedding the blood of Syrians and never joined ISIS, will receive an amnesty", Mustafa Bali, the head of the SDF media centre, told ARA News.

He added: "The attacks that happened in Paris and Brussels, the attacks were trained by them and left from Syria to Europe". Civilian deaths in Syria and Iraq are up 60% in the last six months.

"And what's really happening in Raqqa - similar to what we saw in Mosul but on a smaller scale - the Isis fighters on the ground are using these civilians as their own shields, as their own hostages". Taking the shackles off the military may have led to more civilian casualties, but it has also brought this phase of the war nearer to an end. The strikes in Syria are not authorized by the government of President Bashar Assad or the UN Security Council.

The recapture of Raqqa would mark a major milestone in the three-year effort to defeat ISIS. Some will nearly certainly make their way to Europe and the US.

Since then, they are believed to have lost 70,000 square kilometers of territory - 78 per cent of the territory they used to hold in Iraq, and 58 per cent of the territory they used to hold in Syria.
