Giants WR Sterling Shepard carted off with apparent leg injury

Sterling Shepard of the New York Giants evades a tackle by Glover Quin of the Detroit Lions.

The slot-receiver had to be carted off as he was in a huge amount of pain.

With McAdoo describing it was a "basketball-type" ankle injury, it would seem to indicate a low sprain as opposed to a high sprain - which would be more good news for Shepard and the Giants.

Trainers were taking a look at Shepard's left ankle according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The injury looked significantly worse than some of the early evaluations seem to indicate, but further testing will determine the severity more accurately.

As a rookie last season, Shepard turned heads. They finished at 11-5 and lost to the Green Bay Packers in the wild card round.

Shepard was poised to be a starter once again this season alongside Odell Beckham Jr. and Brandon Marshall.

Had Shepard gone down with a major injury, the Giants offense would have been dealt a serious blow. Having started all 16 regular-season games for the Giants, Shepard caught four passes for 63 yards in the team's wild card game loss to Green Bay. He was said at practice to be "stretching with teammates and jogging".
