Militants loot bank in Bijbehara

In yet another major robbery, terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir barged into a bank and looted cash on Monday. Police have blamed the bank heists on militants.

Police said they used CCTV footage to establish the link between the accused and the Hizbul Mujahideen.

A police official said bank officials claim ₹5 lakh were looted.

According to Police spokesman that Anantnag police has registered a case and investigation was set into motion. But with an improvement in the security situation, banks resumed cash dispensation in the region where militancy is on the rise.

He said after looting the bank, the militants fled from the spot.

Kashmir witnessed a surge in bank looting cases ever since demonetization of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 8 past year. The fresh robbery has come three months after several banks shifted the cash deposit and withdrawal departments of vulnerable branches to relatively safer areas in the restive south Kashmir region.
