Murder Mystery Night Turns Into The Real Thing On Emerald Princess

Murder Mystery Night Turns Into The Real Thing On Emerald Princess

The ship departed Seattle on Sunday for a week-long trip that was cut short by the incident.

The woman died in USA waters off the coast of Alaska at around 9pm after a domestic dispute.

The cruise ship was diverted to Juneau, Alaska because of the criminal investigation, according to ABC News.

Suzanne Ragsdale, of Houston, said passengers were notified late Tuesday about security issues and told over the public address system Wednesday morning that there had been a death.

The cruise line's release said fleet security is coordinating with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and other local authorities.

The name of the victim has not yet been released, but a Princess Cruises statement says the woman was 39, and the domestic abuse happened at about 9 p.m. Tuesday and the woman died that night. While on board, some scoped out their surroundings with binoculars or took pictures, while others watched the comings-and-goings in the restricted-access area leading to the ship.

The FBI was called Wednesday morning to investigate the death because it occurred outside of state territory, but was still in USA waters, KTUU in Anchorage, Alaska, reported. There are an estimated 200 passenger deaths a year, around the world.

In December 2011, Shirley McGill, 55, from Winnetka, California, was beaten and strangled to death in a cruise ship by her husband during a heated argument between the couple.

Shortly after, screams echoed through the hallways of the Emerald Princess.

All deaths on board are not just among passengers and some are tragic accidents too.

One passenger had been detained by the crew, the cruise line said, adding that it has the authority to detain anyone who commits a crime.

Majority of deaths occur due to age-related illnesses as the average age of cruise passengers would be 57 years and 40 percent of them are aged 65 and above, according to the Telegraph.

As the siren call for security and medical staff sounded on Tuesday night, passengers wondered what the big announcement was all about.
