Teen arrested after London acid attacks

Teen arrested after London acid attacks

It comes just a day after five separate male victims were targeted by two moped-riding attackers in a 90-minute rampage in London. The victim was hospitalised with injuries that are being described as "life-changing". He was also taken to an east London hospital.

"People said he was attacked".

He told Sky News: "I heard the sound of water, this kind of glass of water came into my face".

Hussain said it felt like "someone threw extreme fire on my face". A male in his teens was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and robbery.

A 16-year-old boy has been charged with 15 offenses after five acid attacks in London.

Both teenage attackers then fled the scene.

I was just begging for water because by that time it was burning on my face, he said.

"The acid had run down my cheeks and burnt into my skin".

"This is a fast moving investigation and we have made two arrests today", Chief Insp Ben Clark said.

"I realised there was no blood so I thought there must have been another acid attack".

A report published recently has shown a steep increase in the number of acid attacks in London over the last couple of years, with over 450 attacks being reported in 2016 alone.

In an interview with LBC on Friday morning, Metropolitan Police commissioner Cressida Dick called the attacks "completely barbaric", adding, "I don't want people to think this is happening all over London all the time; it is really not".

He said carrying a bottle of sulphuric acid without justification should be treated as an offence, like carrying a knife, and said there was a case to re-examine when it is appropriate to use stop and search powers.

Such vicious incidents have always been a problem in several south Asian countries.

The attacks have intensified calls for tougher sentences for attackers and restrictions on the sale of corrosive substances.

"It's drain cleaner, oven cleaner, ammonia - different types of household products which can be bought".

Campaigners are calling for a licensing system or for the buyer to go through checks and have their details held on a database. "Why would a normal person need sulphuric acid, for example?"

She said through her spokeswoman that it was "already an offence to carry acid or a corrosive substance with intent to cause harm" and that her government was "working with the police to see what more we could do".
